Railroad Lantern DW&P Ry Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific Star Headlight Co. Red Globe

Here is a fine and seldom seen railroad lantern made by the Star Headlight Company.  The railroad is the Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railway.  As you can see in the picture of the bottom of the pot holder, there is a neatly-made round opening.  This had to be done by the manufacturer, probably requested by the railroad to minimize corrosion and eventual rust-out of the bottom, but I'm not sure of that.  The pot and brass burner are in very good condition and are original to the lantern. There are no holes in the pot.  The wick is completely intact and was never lit.  The red globe is intact and has no cracks.  The globe was made by Corning and is not railroad marked.  The stamped letters have the same light surface rust as the rest of the lantern.  This means that the letters have been subject to the same weathering for the same period of time that the lantern was in railroad use.  This is only the third time I have seen a lantern marked for this railroad, and that was a long time ago.  Buyer pays shipping.  Thank you for looking!
