Supplemental Information:
Clinton Firestone
was the
President of Columbus Buggy
which formed in 1875. Their exhibit was located in the
Transportation Building
(Listing in "The Official Directory" of exhibitors shown and digitally highlighted). His nephew,
Harvey Firestone,
worked for him as well as noted early race car driver Eddie Rickenbacker.
Columbus, Ohio,
became THE popular seat of buggy production and innovation for decades. When the "automobile" became the talk, Buggy started making electric cars which crashed in 1915 because of
cheaper Ford gas engine cars. Henry Ford
asked Buggy to develop both car and racing tires and
Harvey Firestone
provided them, started his own company, and is still famous and in business today!
