Very rare and original, 1893 Columbian Exposition / Chicago World's Fair Elaborately Carved Bone, Souvenir Letter Opener and Dip Pen with a Stanhope featuring a view of the Fairgrounds.
This elaborately carved Stanhope measures approx. 9” long and features a micro-miniature photograph with with two view – one titled Chicago 1893 / Electrical Building” and the other titled “View Looking South Over the Lagoon”. The Stanhope is set into the end of the handle of an elaborately carved, bone Letter Opener. The handle of the Letter Opener unscrews unscrews from the blade to reveal a a nib point, dip ink pen as can be seen in the scans below.
This rare and wonderful, 1893 Columbian Exposition Souvenir Stanhope / Letter Opener and Pen is in excellent condition only. The micro-miniature photo featuring Views of the Exposition is well preserved with some mottling to the image. There is no damage or repairs to any of the carved bone elements and the nib pen is intact (although there is no metal nib included).
