1893 COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR BRASS/GLASS PICTORAL JEWELRY BOX

Description

Up for auction is this great 1893 Columbian Exposition/Chicago World's Fair brass and glass casket jewelry box.  The piece has 5 beveled glass panes set, four on the side and one on top, set in an Art Nouveau inspired four footed brass box frame.  The hinged brass top has a reverse painted colorful image of the fair.  There is a working clasp in front.  The inside of the lid has a mirror, although the mirroring images have faded.  The interior bottom has a pink pillowed cushion.  The square box measures about 2 1/2 inches all around.  In good shape with some quite minor wear to mostly the interior of two of the beveled glass panels (this is quite minor, mostly hidden under the brass panels and commensurate with the antique age of the piece!).  Images is clean, colorful and clear.  Brass exhibits a wonderful antique patina!  A great and hard to find piece in nice shape offered with NO RESERVE!!
