Description
This item is a great souvenir/advertising medal (a so-called dollar) from the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and it features an amazingly detailed, very three-dimensional image of the landing of Columbus on one side, withWORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION
and
CHICAGO, ILLS. - 1893
along the rim.
T
he other side advertised the spices sold by the Weikel & Smith Spice Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company's monogram is in the center, with the company name around the monogram and the words
BOHSEMEEM THE BEST & PUREST SPICES
along the upper rim and
1868 PHILAD'A. PA.
at the bottom. This medal was minted with great high-relief (three-dimensional) detail, and all of the design and lettering is bold. This item is holed (as issued?) for use as a fob, and the hole is filled with debris.
This item measures approximately 36 mm (1-13/32") in diameter, and it is composed of aluminum with very bright silver surfaces.
The item is in extremely fine condition, with very light actual wear (is any), light signs of handling, and limited very light soiling (not as obvious as in photos). Both sides remain a very bright, very reflective silver color.
The illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description. NOTE: This item is has a much better silver color, is much brighter, and is much more attractive than is evident in the photos. Also, the soiling (reddish-brown in photos) is much less obvious on the actual item.
